National Study Visit: Consorzio Percorsi (Italy)

Meeting frontline teams supporting migrant women survivors of trafficking

As part of the EmpowerHER project activities, I carried out a national visit to Consorzio Percorsi in Avellino. This visit was an important early step in deepening our understanding of Italy’s reception system and the long-standing work conducted by local actors in supporting migrant women who are victims or at risk, of trafficking and exploitation.

On 11 September 2025, I visited the Percorsi offices in Avellino to meet the full team and learn more about their decades of experience in migration and protection services where I had the pleasure of meeting Percorsi’s team including the President, the General Director, the Director of the Immigration Department, social workers active in the main reception centres, as well as coordinators and operators involved in the SAI projects.

The exchange allowed us to explore key themes related to migration dynamics, sectoral challenges, and the competencies developed over years of frontline work. These discussions were essential to clarifying the project’s areas of intervention and shaping our operational direction for the months ahead.

This first meeting represented a constructive and formative moment, offering insight into Italy’s territorial realities and the many layers of work required to support and accompany migrant women on their path to autonomy. It was also an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between partners and ensure that EmpowerHER’s methodology remains grounded in real, context-sensitive practices.

The activities will be followed by a workshop in December involving local stakeholders to help build a functional and collaborative support network.

Meeting the Percorsi team and seeing firsthand the dedication behind their work was both enriching and inspiring. It is a pleasure to coordinate a project that brings together such committed actors and to witness the project progressively taking shape.
